MuseScore did not by default enter in cautionary accidentals automatically.

MuseScore is more compact horizontally, but less compact between systems (harder to read in my opinion).

MuseScore has only a small learning curve (which is great, because this was my first time truly using it).

Neither program handled the last measure well, including (strangely enough) the vertical placement of the hairpin and fff.

MuseScore and Dorico did great jobs considering these PDFs use only the default engraving settings.

The only measure that required manual adjustment was the last measure.

I left most of the defaults in MuseScore 3.6.

As someone who has used Finale, Sibelius, and Dorico, I found that it was a cross between Sibelius and Dorico, in that placement of markings is almost as easy as Dorico, and note input is certainly easier to learn than Sibelius (I use my computer keyboard and shortcuts as my preferred methods of note entry–I try to avoid using mouse clicks when possible). This piece was a breeze to write and engrave in MuseScore. The composition I wrote that is inspired by my Bach practice is titled “My guitar is a cello”. I am re-learning on classical guitar with a jazz pick, by tuning strings III – VI of the guitar to “cello” tuning (A-D-G-C). I recently have been re-learning the Bach Cello suites, but this time not on cello. I wrote a piece on manuscript paper for solo classical guitar. This is one example of one miniature that I composed and input over the course of a few hours. Please note, that this article is not a comparison between MuseScore and Dorico as programs on the whole. I also compared the final result to Dorico Pro 3.5. I tried it out, and I think you will like the outcome of the engraving. MuseScore is a free music notation software program that was updated recently to massively improve its engraving performance.
